Colorless viscous liquid. Flammable, almost odorless, with a bitter taste and hygroscopicity. Except for petroleum ether, it can dissolve general organic solvents. It can be freely miscible with water, ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, pyridine, ethyl acetate, dibutyl phthalate, dioxane, and aromatic compounds, and is insoluble in fatty hydrocarbon compounds other than acetylene. It has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb water equivalent to 70% of its own weight from the air at 20 ℃ and a relative humidity of 60%.
